MBTA Garage under New Management?

I parked in the MBTA garage tonight as I do whenever I am going to leave my car in Lynn during the day, and they are under new management. Now, one would assume the MBTA manages the MBTA garage. Apparently, that is not the case. I wonder what this means? So far it just means, you get a different kind of ticket. It still seems to be $2 to enter.

Stay tuned.

Mayor Clancy.....Get a Clue

The arguments don't even make sense. Roll back the hours on bars for what effect???? THe majority in the room were for keeping the hours at 2AM. Salem Sate students driving to Lynn will now drive further to Boston for their late night activities and drive back even drunker to Salem. All this does is further prove that Lynn officials are out of touch with the electorate and what this city needs. We do not need more restrictions on business downtown. We need encouragement to come to Lynn and set up shop. If this goes into effect on January 1, it will be a good reason why I sell my condo and go somewhere that has even a remote chance at a future.

Clancy, you are officially a moron after the antics on October 2nd. The council should be ashamed of themselves for ignoring the public.

Anyone for a kite ballet?

I just found this on the city of Lynn website. There is a kite festival/competition going on at Lynn Beach on the Nahant Line on October 13th.

http://www.kone.org/Festivals.html
I've never heard of a kite ballet, but what could be more fun then synchronized kiting to a little Celine Dion. Sarah and I have begun to practice for our tight formation fly. Ok, just kidding, but we'll probably go check it out.

Come to Lynn, the city of kites.

New Bakery

What's the name of the new bakery downtown? I drove by it today and the window actually enticed me to the point I am going to try and stop in tomorrow. Has anyone gone? Is it any good?
Nice to see new businesses somewhere in the downtown area. Wish they would come to Central Square.

I've heard through the grapevine that Flava'z is not doing so well. Please support them as much as you can. Would be sad to see another storefront vacant. Pretty soon we're gonna be left with Dunkin and that's it.

Hybrid Commuter Rail

Looks like the federal government will be helping with the purchase of a few Hybrid Locomotives for use on the commuter rail. Not only are they environmentally friendly but thesy apparently are very quiet. Would be quite a relief to those of us with apartments so close to the tracks.

City Hall Meeting on October 2nd

I heard tonight that there will be a City Hall meeting on October 2nd about the current closing time of establishments such as the Downtown Bistro. The council currently has the votes to get the city to approve a reduction in hours from 2AM to 1AM. I think this is a horrible mistake.

Let's think about this reasonably. Most major cities are open till 2AM or later in other states. The reduction in hours will certainly hurt the revenue at Downtown Bistro, Tatiana's and other establishments in an already empty downtown. Do we really want Downtown Bistro to fail? Take away an hour of alcohol revenue and you are sure to help destroy their business.

This is insane. I hope lots of residents will get out to the city council meeting to support the Downtown Bistro and future restaurants in their fight to keep the hours as they are. If we don't, most restaurants and cafes will look to open up elsewhere.

Red Arrow Means Beep like Hell Until They Go!!!

Driving lesson for those of you driving into Downtown from Union Street. Red arrow means stop and you cannot take a right on red. Those people who are stopped and remain stopped at the red arrow should continue this pattern. Those people who lay on their horns trying to get people to run the red light, you should stop doing that.

What really needs to happen is a posting of a "No turn on red" sign at the corner of Union/Central.

While we're on the topic of driving in Downtown lynn. I've noticed that everyone drives really slow and really bad down here. Why is that?

Lynn, the City of Firsts?

I think we need a new marketing campaign. I keep hearing that Lynn is the City of Firsts and then the list provided is kind of pathetic.

So, any ideas. How about Lynn, the city of "please open a store downtown...pretty please"? That might be a little pathetic too.

Sorry that I don't have anything more exciting to report on.

Where oh where art thou, Boba Cafe?

A month or so ago a bunch of us residents went to a City Council meeting where the new owners of the Boba Cafe and Cyber Lounge were filing for a permit for a beer and wine license. This cafe is supposed to ultimately open at 27 Central. Anyone know if this is still in the works. It would be great for that section of Central to get a new storefront.

Any other rumors out there of businesses trying to get started in this area? What do we really need? Also, does anyone know what's going on with the building on the corner where Flag Pharmacy is? Is that going to be an expanded version of the pharmacy that is already there?

MBTA Platform Work in Central Square

The Lynn Item is reporting that the work on the platform in Central Square is going to take a month. They are on that platform each day and it seems like all they do is draw and dig small holes. The plan is to resurface the entire platform. Should look nice from my windows, but I was hoping for something more exciting then that. They really need better lighting up there at night.

Crazy Kite Men

We just took a walk down to the beach. The Friendship had just kicked off for its sail to wherever it goes after Lynn. It was pretty impressive to see that thing sailing next to the causeway.

Even more impressive were the crazy kite men. A bunch of grown men with helmets flying these enormous kites attached to three wheelers and skateboards and all sorts of crazy things. It looked like too much work to be fun, but it was really fun to watch.

I wish they would clean up lower Washington Street so the walk to the beach could be a bit more enjoyable. What happened to the North Shore Community College expansion I read about months ago?

Do we really need a ferry?

To ferry or not to ferry?

I don't think i would use it. I currently take the commuter rail and it takes me 19 minutes to get to North Station. Who is going to take this ferry?

I see how it helps the waterfront develop, so I'm all for it in that regard, I just don't know if it's too soon.

Bring on the Blue Line.

Friendship Sails to Lynn

The Friendship will be docked at the Lynn Seaport Marina. This seems kind of cool. I might even head over this weekend to check it out. It's free and it's a short walk from downtown.

Welcome to the Downtown Lynn Blog

I am a new resident to downtown Lynn. I've been here for about a year now. My parents were born here and often tell me of what used to be. I see it coming back. I have hope for my property value. I think others out there do as well. I figured I would put this blog together to try and get the community talking about what's happening, and what's next. Rumors, gossip, news, etc. Bring it on.

Being here a year now, I just attended my 2nd Meet Me Downtown. As always, I was very impressed with Imaginary Beasts (formerly Iron Rail Stage Co), based out of Lynn Arts. The vendors were more numerous and there was a lot more for my nieces to do. It was a great day for downtown Lynn.

But, now the tents are down and we're still waiting for the new Boba Tea Cafe at 27 central to start work on that location. What about all the other empty storefronts? When and what is coming? Anyone hear anything?

Downtown Bistro is fantastic. If it was a little cheaper, I'd be there every single week. Because of it's price, I've gone once and will go on another big occasion sometime in the not so distant future. Why can't these restaurant owners figure out we have just enough money to live in Lynn. It's why we live here. Give us a great Bistro at Chili's prices, and you'd make a fortune.

Tis all for now. Don't know where this blog will go. I do own a condo in a Mayo building, so I'm sure I'll go there at some point. They do suck, as Lynn Lofts, the Skinny has made obvious.

Hope this can become a site where we can brainstorm on what we can do for our community and at the very least rant and rave about the good and bad.
