Time to start the Turbine Hype

So maybe I'm just pathetic, but I got pretty excited when I saw this simple decoration in the window of Turbine today. I'm pretty impressed with the amount of hype that The Blue Ox and now Turbine have been able to produce before opening. It's nice to finally see some marketing of the downtown establishments.

I heard from the Turbine folks the other day. They are still 4-6 weeks out. Keep in mind they are in a Mayo Group building. I'm sure dealing with "The Big Mayo" has been a complete pleasure (sarcasm, for those new to the Downtown Lynn blog). I haven't been able to hate on the Mayo Group for a while. That was refreshing.

But back to Turbine. Anyone hear anything else about this place? Menu? Wine list? Beer list?

Check out their site (pretty light on the details)

  1. Corey, excellent post as always. You make me feel like I'm slacking on my blog. :) I can't wait to go to The Blue Ox again tonight and I also saw the new window decoration on Turbine this morning. It seems that these two new places are going out of their way to connect with the residents and ensure their success. In return, we should all invite our out-of-town friends to join us at these spots and do what we can to spread the hype. There is also a new "Greek Kitchen" on Oxford St. I want to try it, but there's no marketing or outreach that I can see. The computer-print-out signs look half-assed, but that doesn't necessarily mean the food is. Have you heard anything about it?

  2. First time I've heard about a new "Greek Kitchen" was right now reading this post. Where on Oxford street? I even drove down the street looking for it and didn't see it. Oy!!!

Sounds good, although we have brothers deli on Market and George's on Broad St. Not sure we need another Greek Kitchen, but we'll see.

I was thinking about The Blue Ox and some of the earlier posts on Lynn Happpens when these two restaurants were starting to make noise. All the residents were screaming for a gourmet burger bar with good beer and wine and better service then the typical Lynn restaurant. I don't know if you've realized, but the Blue Ox Burger is the talk of the town. I think they should embrace and get two or three more burgers on that menu.

  3. The new Greek place is where Paradaiso was. You probably didn't notice it because it still looks like Paradaiso. I think I spelled that right. From what I can tell, it's actually Greek food, such as souvlaki.

I hope the Blue Ox adds a veggie-burger, too. I think if they did it, it would be better than your average frozen Gardenburger. One or two more pasta dishes would be great, too. I brought two friends last night and they were raving about the hangar steak.

  4. Yeah the hangar steak and the burger have got rave reviews across the board.

I think I'll be there Friday night with a friend who's coming in from out of town.

  5. I saw some load-in going on this weekend. Maybe electrical work? Very intrigued about this place. Can't wait to see inside.

  6. Okay, so here's the deal. Just had a grand tour of what's going to be the newest hippest wine bar on the North Shore. Steve described his vision for the completed renovated space where the Gulu used to be.

Mark your calendars he mentioned there is a good chance the Turbine will be opening it's sheek, hip, raw, concrete and urbine loft style restauarant/wine bar in approximately 2-4 weeks. This will certainly be a fun place to chill with friends.

  8. I was starting to lose hope. I'm glad to hear it's still in the works. We keep hearing 2-4 weeks. How does one get a secret tour? Let's put some teaser pics up here. Get some real buzz and excitement going. How about an opening event with the Downtown residents?
