What will we see first - Turbine or Universal Health Care?

A bunch of downtown Lynners and I went to The Blue Ox tonight. On the way there, we noticed some people in Turbine. Looks like hardwood floors are down and that's about it. I still see signs of construction in there. They are telling me it's days until we see open doors. I am starting to feel like I'm being lied to..... I predict a grand opening in Summer of 2010 at this rate.

  1. Great question. This brings us back to the other dilemma we have downtown. Our numbers!! If we had enough people down here it would make sense for more folks to open shop on Sunday.

I heard recently that Blue Ox did a brunch on Mothers day this past year and did a great job. Wish they would consider that as a more long term option. Capitol Diner is great, but it would be nice to have an upscale brunch option.

  2. It's still going to be a while before we increase our number of residents downtown.

But we can work on the number of people visiting downtown, which may also help convince more businesses to stay open on Sundays. And if we can't do it with shops, we have to do it with special events and attractions, that we must plan ourselves if we want them done right.

At least Tatiana's and the diner are open on Sundays. If you don't make it to the diner by 1pm, Tatiana's serves brunch until 3pm.

  3. At Capitol Diner, Bob makes special Belgian waffles on Sundays. Only day those are on the menu.

  4. I'm interested in seeing the answer to that question, Corey. As a Downtown Lynn-er for almost 3 years, I've been keeping my fingers crossed that fresh, new business would sprout up in the area. It's been slow and, at times, seemed like a one step forward and two steps back approach. I've met the owner of Turbine while he was working in the space. Opening day(s) has/have come and gone. I hope that Turbine comes before UHC....and FAST!!!

  5. Running posts promoting downtown businesses is good start. Honestly if I didn't see your post for the Karate school, I would never have known it was there. People who work in Boston and live in Lynn need a place close to home where they can exercise or do whatever on their return home. I'm thinking of trying this place out.

  6. Hey guys...you've heard it on Downtown Lynn Blogger first...The Blue Ox will be opening on Sundays from 4-9pm on January 24th. As always, thanks for supporting the restaurant!

  7. Joanna,
Congrats on a very courageous and incredibly neighborly gesture! This has been something the residents have been wanting for a very long time. Now we can have our breakfast with Bob and our Lunch and Dinner with Matt. So excited!!!
